"Playing Doctor" is a 3-act comedy set in in modern times. It is a combination of slap-stick Marx brothers type situations mixed with puns and some sexual innuendo.
The basic plot entails a struggling writer with a typical "dumb blonde" secretary, and his roommate, an out of work untalented would be great actor of stage and screen. The story begins to unfold as the writer finds out that his very rich and very stuffy parents are coming to visit; the problem being that his parents believe they put him through medical school and he is now a very prominent doctor. Now this writer must try to turn his apartment into a doctor's office to fool his parents. The secretary becomes a nurse, and the actor plays the role of several patients.
Another twist is the woman next door who is a nymphomaniac and madly in love with the actor, not to mention her extremely jealous ex-husband who is out to kill the actor for dating his ex-wife. This provides a humorous combination of patients with bad disguises and accents, made up diseases, a dumb blonde nurse, trying to hide and silence that nympho and ex-husband, all while the writer is trying to convince his parents he is a real doctor.
